Spotlight!

Dear Readers,

So if you didn't already know, i was in a musical this fall called Aida. Let me tell you, it's one of the most amazing musicals ever. If you're looking for a comedy though, this is not necessarily the musical i would recommend...it's more dramatic and deep and emotional and all around incredible. So our musical got an award and because of that, our cast was able to go to the Spotlight awards and perform a medley of some of the songs from the musical. If you haven't heard any of the music yet, go on YouTube right now and listen to some of it. You'll be blown away. I promise. So anyways, as a cast we got back together again after about 7 long months of being apart (well, apart as in without that amazing musical bond), and we got into the music again and our incredible directors put together a medley of some of THE BEST songs in the musical and we got to do some of the most incredible dances. It was soo fun. So on
the day of Spotlight, (oh and the day i got my braces off !!) we all got on a bus together and headed downtown. We stopped at Buca's for dinner which was absolutely delish. Let me just say, i am going to miss food like that when i'm in India. After we all ate at Buca's, we went over to the Orpheum and found out when we were going on and all that good stuff. Turned out we were going 3rd, in a group of about 20-30 schools. When it was about our turn to go on, we all went backstage and waited for our turn. The excitement was incredible. You could practically feel it in the air. It was kind of bittersweet for me though, considering this was my last musical moment with some of my favorite people in the world. I have grown so much with these people and have such an amazing bond with them that i don't have with anyone else, and i hope they know that i love them and will miss them like crazy. When it was our time to go on, i had goosebumps, and when we all stepped out onto that stage, the world felt like it had froze. We were back in Nubia. The excitement and seriousness of it all felt like it was pulsing across the stage. We were in the Orpheum. On the Orpheum stage. Where so many famous people had been standing. And here we were about to sing. Then, the moment Allie put her hand up (she plays Aida), a pulse seemed to have gone through all of us as we consecutively stomp. Through the entire song and dance i felt like i was a completely different person. I sung and danced better than i ever have before, and i could feel everyone else around me feeling the same way. When we finished we rushed off stage and i was practically in tears. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4M-Srh6UCc Just watch, and you'll feel how amazing it felt. We had done it.
We went and sat down in the audience to watch the rest of the schools, still in shock. It was an absolutely incredible experience, one that i hope never to forget.

With all my heart, Kayla
